FARRELL
School-Aged daycare has been shut down
Although Farrell school officials had agreed to keep the Farrell Day-Care School-Aged Program open until Friday, the program shut down early as parents made other arrangements for their children.
Superintendent Richard R. Rubano Jr. said Monday the program has been closed for a couple of weeks.
Parents protested the closing in August, but school officials said the number of children enrolled -- four -- was not enough to keep it open. The program, which needs at least 10 students enrolled, has been losing $20,000 a year.
Officials extended the closing from Aug. 24 to give time for more students to enroll.
Rubano said the program could reopen if enough students enroll.
The district's other day-care programs remain open.
