HERMITAGE

Motorists reminded about road closings for parade

Motorists traveling through Hermitage Saturday, particularly shoppers headed to the Shenango Valley Mall, are reminded of some street closings during the city's annual Holiday Light Parade.

The parade gets under way at 6 p.m. It begins at Hermitage Towne Plaza along East State Street and ends at the mall at East State and state Route 18, known locally as Hermitage Road.

East State Street will be closed between Ellis Avenue and the mall. Route 18 will be closed from Highland Road, near Hickory High School, to Glimcher Boulevard.

Roads will close at 5:15 p.m. and remain closed for about two hours, said Hermitage Deputy Police Chief Larry Matchak.

The only mall entrance open during that time will be the east entrance off U.S. Route 62 near Kaufmann's. Police are encouraging motorists not to try to cut through the mall parking lot to get to Route 18 since the road is closed and because the parade ends at the mall. The mall parking lot was jammed with traffic last year, Matchak said.

Police will be stationed at the following intersections to route motorists to detours:

  • Clarksville Road and Route 18

  • Highland Road and Route 18

  • the Shenango Valley Mall

  • Route 18 and East State Street

  • state Route 418 and U.S. Route 62

  • Dutch Lane and East State Street

  • Kerrwood Drive and East State Street

  • North Buhl Farm Drive and East State Street.
