The fire began in the second-floor apartment at about 7 a.m., said a fire official. Dale Schell, who rented that apartment, was not hurt, and the first-floor apartment was vacant, the official said.

The apartment building, owned by Lance Schell of Masury, was a total loss, said Fire Chief Keith Barrett. The building was insured, he added.
