GREENVILLE
Council OKs West Salem police pact
Greenville council on Tuesday formally approved a three-year agreement with West Salem Township for police protection.
Borough and township officials struck a deal in November to extend the agreement from Jan. 1, 2002, to Dec. 31, 2004.
West Salem will pay the borough $66,596 for police protection this year, $68,761 in 2003 and $70,995 in 2004.
The township paid the borough $64,503 last year.
The agreement guarantees responses to police calls from West Salem residents and businesses and twice-daily patrols in the township, among other things.
The agreement also allows township supervisors to negotiate a new deal if the borough reduces the size of its police force.
