GREENVILLE

Line break blamed on freeze-thaw cycle

A break in a 12-inch water line at about 9 a.m. Tuesday caused a sudden drop in water pressure throughout Greenville.

The break occurred in a line in front of the Greenville Municipal Authority office at 44 Clinton St., said Maria Kerekes, water authority secretary.

Water was flowing up through Clinton Street, tearing up the bricks, Mrs. Kerekes said. By about 9:30, the water was being shut down, she said.

The freezing and thawing weather likely caused the break, said Bill Brady, water authority superintendent.

Borough firefighters assisted water authority crews and repairs were finished by about 4 p.m.

The low water pressure meant early dismissal for students in Greenville schools.
