GROVE CITY

Local musician part of benefit CD for kids ministry

Eleven musical artists, including Warren Throckmorton of Grove City, and one missionary have come together on a project to help children in northern Indiana.

The idea for the compact disc "Artists for Children -- CEF Benefit Project" came from Throckmorton, director of counseling at Grove City College. Several mp3.com artists, including Throckmorton, had created a benefit album for Red Cross relief efforts in the wake of Sept. 11.

Throckmorton suggested toRick Jones, a missionary with Child Evangelism Fellowship, working in Indiana, that a similar effort could be made to help CEF.

"At first I was skeptical," Jones said. "But as we discussed it, it sounded like a 'win/win/win' situation. We could increase awareness of CEF, bring new listeners to some talented musicians, and help fund our outreach to children."

CEF is a religious organization working in more than 150 countries that focuses on presenting Bible lessons to children who do not usually attend church. CEF has a local outreach that covers Mercer and Lawrence counties.

Musicians from nine states and two groups from England agreed to include a song on the project and will donate their earnings from CD sales to Child Evangelism Fellowship of North Central Indiana.

Many songs on the project focus on love for children. There are two traditional hymns. Some of the tracks are sung by children. Also included are three prose segments by Jones, true stories about events in Indiana that illustrate the importance of CEF's ministry.
