Man sentenced, still has to face gun-related charges

A Delaware Township man found himself before a district justice Thursday for the second time in two days for his alleged role in a gun-related incident.

Gregory R. Knauf, 19, of 26 Patricia Drive, pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly conduct before District Justice James E. McMahon, Sharon. He was sentenced to 1 year of state probation and ordered to pay $200 in fines and costs.

Charges of harassment and simple assault were withdrawn.

On Wednesday, Knauf appeared before District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage, where the following charges were waived to Mercer County Common Pleas Court: aggravated assault, carrying a firearm without a license, possessing a weapon on school property, possessing a prohibited weapon and terroristic threats, plus five counts of simple assault and three counts of recklessly endangering another person.

Those charges stemmed from two incidents on March 23 and 29 where Knauf allegedly threatened Joshua Doddato, 19, of Vienna, Ohio, with a handgun in the parking lot of Kennedy Catholic High School in Hermitage.

Sharon police arrested Knauf April 2 on a warrant from a Feb. 17 incident that began in Hermitage and ended in Sharon in which Knauf was in a vehicle chasing a car on the Shenango Valley Freeway, police said.

When Knauf and the other driver got to a traffic light at Connelly Boulevard and Sharpsville Avenue in Sharon, the other driver told police he looked over and Knauf was holding a handgun, police said.

The other driver told police he ran a red light and drove straight to the police station.

Knauf is free on bond. If convicted of the Hermitage charges, he could face up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine for aggravated assault and up to 7 years in prison and a $15,000 fine for carrying firearms without a license, authorities said. The other charges are misdemeanors.
