The last juror and four alternates are expected to be picked today for the murder trial of Shane Sloan, the Pine Township man accused of strangling his mother and threatening to blow up the trailer they shared.

Sloan, 29, faces life in prison for allegedly killing his mother, 48-year-old Susan LaRue Feegler in February 2001. He is charged with first- and third-degree murder and risking a catastrophe in connection with the two-hour standoff with state police.

As of Friday evening, 11 jurors had been selected – six of them women.

Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael J. Wherry, who is hearing the case, said selection would resume this morning and continue until the remaining five people are chosen. Wherry anticipated that opening arguments would begin Monday morning, and that the case could last up to two weeks.

According to state police, a blood-spattered Sloan said, "I killed her," as they took him into custody late in the morning of Feb. 5.

Sloan was read his rights about 10 minutes later, state police said.
