Hospital releases bitten woman

A Sharon woman who had part of a finger bitten off during a fight was released Friday from the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Francine Moore, 45, of 362 Malleable St., Sharon, had been in the hospital since Sunday.

The fight occurred at 1:30 a.m. last Saturday at 523 Fruit Ave., Farrell, police said. Marcia Gregory, 34, of 937 Hamilton Ave., Farrell, and Ms. Moore's boyfriend got into an argument over money, police said.

When Ms. Moore joined in, Ms. Gregory threw a punch and Ms. Moore threw her to the floor, police said.

During the fight, Ms. Gregory bit off the tip of the Ms. Moore's finger up to the first knuckle, including a portion of bone, police said.

Ms. Gregory also hit Ms. Moore in the head with a glass ash tray, police said.

After Ms. Gregory left, Ms. Moore wrapped the finger, police said. At that point, she didn't know that part of it had been amputated, police said.

"She didn't realize how bad it was until she unwrapped it the next day," said Southwest Mercer County Regional police Sgt. Douglas Long.

Ms. Moore unwrapped it at about 10 p.m. and went to the hospital, police said.

Ms. Gregory was arrested Wednesday on charges of aggravated and simple assault and reckless endangering, police said. She is being held on $5,000 bond and a parole detainer.
