Senior Center to offer belly dancing; other activities offered

Shenango Valley Center for Aging/Geriatric Health, a division of Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc., 220 N. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage, announced January activities.

Belly dancing will begin at 1 p.m. Jan. 17.

From 9 to 11 a.m., a 500 card class will be held on Mondays through Thursdays.

Computer classes will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 7 and 14.

Assistance with property tax, rent rebate and PACE application assistance forms is offered by appointment only from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

The Unique Boutique is open from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

   » Jan. 7 -- 11:30 a.m., January council meeting.

   » Jan. 8 -- 11:30 a.m., Gerry Moore with Literacy Council.

   » Jan. 9 -- 11:15 a.m., Consumer update.

   » Jan. 15 -- 9 a.m. to noon, Hair cuts.

   » Jan. 16 -- 11:15 a.m., Birthday and anniversary party.

   » Jan. 20 -- Center closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

   » Jan. 22 -- 10 to 11:30 a.m., Eyeglass cleaning and minor repairs by Keystone Blind Association.

   » Jan. 27 -- 9:30 a.m. to noon, Euchre Club.

   » Jan. 31 -- Chinese New Year.

Daily activities are puzzles and games. The center is also available afternoons for cards and other games including Dominoes, Scrabble and pool. Seniors may also walk the track from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Computer classes are available by appointment.

A mini-breakfast is served daily from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Donation is $1, if not staying for lunch.

   » Monday -- 9:30 a.m., Trotter; and music therapy with Judy Christ, certified music therapist; 11 a.m., choral group with Jane Bartholomew; 1 p.m., tap dancing by Bonnie Banick; and Mah Jongg.

   » Tuesday -- 9:30 a.m., Lotto; blood pressure screening with Rural Metro; and balance exercises with Jon Kolb and Corie Komarc of the Physical Fitness Center of Sharon Regional Health System (9 a.m. Jan. 21, 28); 10 a.m., crochet/crafts; 10:30 a.m., sing-along; 10:45 a.m., Energy Choreography with Kathy Gracenin; and 3 p.m., Yoga with Joni Laeng of Primary Health. The balance exercise fee is $1.

   » Wednesday -- 9:30 to 11 a.m., Bingo; 10:30 a.m., Tai Chi/Qigong with Nick Gracenin; 11:30 a.m., speaker with handout; and 1 p.m., Movie Classics.

   » Thursday -- 9:30 a.m., Lotto game; 10 a.m., line dancing with Marlene Comunale; 11 a.m., Yoga; 1 p.m., Mah Jongg; and 3 p.m., balance exercises.

   » Friday -- 9:30 to 11 a.m., Bingo; 11:30 a.m., handout; 1 to 3 p.m., Shuffleboard (Jan. 10, 24).

Upcoming events include:

   » Feb. 3 -- Tax assistance begins.

   » Feb. 3, 10 -- 2 p.m., beginners creative writing class.

   » Feb. 24 -- advanced creative writing class.

The center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lunch is served weekdays at noon for a donation of at least $1.50 that includes the mini-breakfast. Please come in no later than 11:30 a.m. to sign up.
