A fire broke out shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday in an upstairs bedroom of an apartment in the Malleable Heights housing complex in Sharon.

No one was home at the time of the fire at 827 Ravine Place, and no one was injured, firefighters said. It took about an hour to put out, they said.

Firefighters did not know the cause Tuesday evening of the fire, which started in the northwest corner bedroom of the apartment. The other two upstairs bedrooms and the bathroom were damaged by smoke and heat; the downstairs sustained water damage, firefighters said.

Two of the occupants of the apartment are Charles Newby and Phoebe Norris, but firefighters were unsure of how many people lived there. Firefighters did not know if they had insurance but said the Mercer County chapter of the American Red Cross had been notified to help the couple.

Malleable Heights is owned by the Mercer County Housing Authority.
