Police, fire chiefs release
their 2002 year-end reports

The Brookfield fire and police chiefs released their year-end reports for 2002.

According to Fire Chief Keith Barrett:

Last year firefighters answered 2,944 calls -- 1,071 medical emergencies; 213 for fire or rescue; and 1,660 transfers.

Fire loss for the year totaled $236,500, with the most in July at $114,000.

Police Chief Daniel Faustino reported a total of 9,238 calls and said police wrote 1,383 reports in 2002.

Faustino's breakdown of arrests shows: 736 misdemeanors, 33 felonies, 70 drug-related, 96 warrants, 63 drunken driving, 61 juvenile, 51 summons and 281 traffic citations.

Police made 112 domestic arrests -- 64 for violence and 48 nonviolent. Police also responded to 355 accidents, 41 of them in December. Police logged 154,273 miles on patrol, using 7,540 gallons of fuel.

Reserve police logged 2,007 hours, community service hours totaled 69.5 and the police working the summer youth program put in 207 hours during June, July and August.
