Beader joins commissioner's race

Brian Beader, 33, Lexington Drive in Hermitage has announced his candidacy for Mercer County Commissioner on the Democratic ticket.

"I just don't see the involvement of youth in politics," Beader said. "I hope to get involved and make a difference."

Beader said he considers himself a conservative Democrat and said his political viewpoints have "helped me create a good relationship with business, labor and elected officials."

Beader was president of the class of 1988 at Hickory High School and earned his journeyman wireman certificate in 1994. He worked as an electrician for local contractors for several years while attending a five-year joint apprenticeship-training program in Beaver.

Reared on a farm, Beader said he has a vast knowledge of agricultural affairs and is also familiar with industrial concerns from his current post as business representative for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 712.

He is president of the Mercer County Building and Construction Trades Council, serves on the executive boards of the Mercer County Central Labor Council and the Northwest Pennsylvania Cooperation Council, is vice chairman of the Mercer County Industrial Development Authority and serves on the Mercer County Strategic Planning Steering Committee.

Beader is a member of the Mercer County Home Builders Association, the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Hermitage Historical Society, the Association for Retarded Citizens of Mercer County, Keystone Blind Association, and other fraternal and social clubs.

"I have always been active in my community and have watched many of my classmates and friends move from our area to find higher paying jobs. For this reason, I am getting involved to help create an atmosphere that is attractive to the educated youth."

Beader is married with three children.
