Hubbard Township police are still searching for the killer of a man whose skeletal remains were found nearly seven years ago.

On May 30, 1996, members of the Hubbard Township and Liberty Township police departments in Ohio, as well as the Boardman Township police K-9 unit, found the remains of Shawn C. Hughes, 25, of Pittsburgh, in the area of 1900 Fox North Road. Hughes had been fatally shot, police said.

This is Hubbard Township's first unsolved murder in 20 years, said Det. Mike Begeot.

"We believe Hughes had some connection to the Sharon area," he said. "But he has no family here that we know of. Without people who knew him asking questions in the community, we're not getting very many leads."

Police had originally responded to a call on May 27, 1996, to the area after a homeowner's dog had lugged home several large bones. An examination determined the bones were human femurs. Police identified the remains as those of Hughes in June 1996.
