A deadly alcohol and drug mix killed a Hermitage teen who was found dead last month at a friend's house, Mercer County Coroner J. Bradley McGonigle said.

Hermitage police are investigating the death of Brian Daniel Grgurich, 17, of 1549 Catalina Place. Brian was found dead the morning of Jan. 18 at a home in the 3000 block of Lamor Road, said Deputy Police Chief Larry Matchak.

According to the toxicology results, the drug used was methadone, which is commonly used as a pain reliever, but is also used to control addiction to opium-related drugs such as heroin. According to Health-Center.com, methadone decreases feelings of pain and reduces emotional response to pain.

McGonigle said he ruled the manner of death as accidental.

The Grgurich family had no comment, but according to their family attorney, Thomas Dill of Sharon, there is no legal action pending.

He said the family is awaiting the results of the police investigation to find out how the drugs were obtained and how they got into Brian's system.

The teen was a senior at Hickory High School, where he was involved in football and track.
