Buhl Day 2003 is an annual celebration not just for adults in the Shenango Valley, but for children and young people as well.

This year, Buhl Day coordinators have considered everyone, and they've planned a bevy of festivities to entertain youth of all ages.

The idea of separating events by age groups came from Carole Dunkerley, director of park programs and activities. Ms. Dunkerley said this year's events will be more age-specific so children will be able to enjoy them better.

For example, children ages 1 to 3 may opt to dive into a ball pit or fish for plastic ducks in a pond. They could even play pennies in sawdust.

"The difference from last year is the separation of areas for children," she said. "Little ones won't get confused with the older kids."

Planners are hoping children ages 4 to 12 will find the "Inflatable Fun" area near the Casino irresistible. The inflatable slide and bounce house is sure to attract thrill-seeking youth.

Those ages 13 and up may want to try out the climbing wall or dance to the tunes of the "Digital DJ's," the duo made up of Mike Wilson and Matt Killa.

Young people may also check out the Casino from 1 to 5 p.m., where a children's theater will be held. Balloon sculpting and two magic shows will be featured at that time.

"The magic show is so popular, it's become a yearly house act," Ms. Dunkerley said. "The magic shows are great. Kids really think it's fun."

She added everyone involved with the event just "hopes the kids, moms and dads have fun.

"We want them to enjoy the parade and all the great food," she said.
