Doctor of Audiology
My name is Michael D.
Rairigh, Au.D., and I have re-
cently purchased Dennis

Services.
I grew up in the small
“steel mill” town of Wells-
burg, WV, which is approxi-

located outside of Philadel-
phia.
Most patients often ask
why I chose the profession
of audiology.
I
always
knew I want-
ed to be in
the health
care field.
Growing up with many hear-
ing impaired family mem-
bers who chose not to im-
prove their communication
through the use of hearing
instruments was not only
frustrating for those suffering
from hearing loss, but also
those who were trying to
communicate with them.
Choosing a profession that
allowed the clinician to be-
come more than just a pa-
tient’s doctor, but more like
a family member was impor-
tant to me. When I found au-
diology it was a perfect fit.
I have worked in a variety
of audiology settings. While
working in a hospital setting
I managed the neonatal in-
tensive care unit to deter-
mine whether they suffered
from congenital hearing loss,
and recommended the ap-
propriate treatments. In an
E.N.T. clinic and private
practice I not only cared for
patients with hearing loss
and provided amplification to
improve their quality of life
for communication, but I also
provided vestibular/balance
testing and treatment plans.

Most people don’t give
much thought to the insides
of their noses until they have
difficulty breathing through
them. There are several
problems that can make it
difficult to breathe through
the nose. Discovering the
source of the problem is the
first step in finding the solu-
tion.
P e r h a p s
you have fre-
quent nasal
conges t i on .
Nasal conges-
tion is not al-
ways caused
by allergies
or sinusitis.
There are in-
stances when
nasal conges-
tion is a symptom of a devi-
ated nasal septum.
The nasal septum is a wall
of cartilage and bone that
separates the right and left
nasal passages.
With a deviated septum,
the septum curves to one
side, covering or obstructing
the opening of the nasal cav-
ity on the affected side. The
septum can be fractured by
even minor nasal trauma
without the patient realizing
it.
The resulting anatomic
narrowing of one of both
nasal passages results in a
sense of nasal congestion
and obstruction. This can be
easily and permanently fixed
by a short, 30-40 minute pro-
cedure called a septoplasty.
The ear, nose, and throat
physician can easily diagnose
this problem with a nasal en-
doscope. This is a small,
short telescope that the
physician uses to look in
both nasal passages. If there
is a sinusitis, then the sinusi-
tis can be addressed using
with medical treatment or si-
nus surgery.
Current state-of-the-art
technology allows the mini-
mally invasive use of sinus
balloon catheters, which can
be threaded
through the
nose and
into the si-
nus cavities
to open up
the sinus openings, thereby
avoiding creating incisions in
the sinus openings.
Depending on the extent
of sinusitis, this procedure,
called balloon sinoplasty, can
even be done under local
anesthesia in the office, thus
avoiding general anesthesia.
If the nasal condition is from
allergies, then testing can be
done, and allergy shots may
be the preferred treatment
option.
If you have a nasal condi-
tion that has not responded
to multiple courses of antibi-
otics and allergy medica-
tions, please come in for a
comprehensive nasal exami-
nation.

Private practice MD orthopedic
surgeon
Osteoarthritis is the most
common reason for joint re-
placement. A partial knee re-
placement is typically used
for patients who have os-
teoarthritis in limited parts of
their knee.
Osteoarthritis is a disease
that involves the breakdown
of cartilage in one or more
joints. Cartilage is a strong,
smooth mate-
rial that caps
the articulat-
ing, or mov-
ing surfaces
of the bones
in the joint.
It allows
bone surfaces
to
glide
against each
other during
motion. When the gliding
cartilage breaks down or
wears away, the bones grind
against each other, which
can cause pain and limited
joint movement.
Total knee replacement,
also called arthroplasty, in-
volves removing the dis-
eased bone and cartilage and
resurfacing it with orthope-
dic implants. The word re-
placement makes one think
that surgeons remove the
entire knee.
In truth, surgeons only re-
move the damaged bone and
cartilage at the ends of the
bones in the joint. Total knee
implants are typically made
from cobalt chromium and
polyethylene, which is a
durable plas-
tic.
In his ef-
fort to pro-
vide increas-

exceptional surgical services
for his patients Stuart Ander-
son, MD is the first surgeon
in the region to introduce
the latest technology for total
knee replacement surgery -
the Signature™ Personalized
Patient CareSystem.
“The Signature system is
extremely beneficial for my
patients because it enables
me to offer enhanced im-
plant placement with a less-
invasive surgery,” said Dr.
Anderson.
The Signature™ system
utilizes custom femoral and
tibial positioning guides de-
veloped from a patient’s MRI
(Magnetic Resonance Im-
age). The MRI creates a
three-dimensional image of
the patient’s joint anatomy,
enabling the surgeon to pre-
operatively plan the patient’s
knee replacement.
The three-dimensional
MRI is also used to create
the custom positioning
guides for the patient’s total
joint replacement implants.
In the past, surgeon planning
has typically been based off
of two-dimensional X-rays.
Dr. Anderson is enthusias-
tic about incorporating the
Signature system into his
practice.

Muscarella’s Vitamin Center
Many people are tired of
the side effects of prescrip-
tion medications and they
want to do something about
the lack of nutritional value
in our foods. They also want
to know how to deal with the
chemicals, hormones and
harmful supplements found
in supermarket foods. If you
are one of those people, you
should visit Muscarella’s Vit-
amin Center in Hermitage.
I got into
the business
to help peo-
ple learn to
take control
of their own
health issues. My valued as-
sociates, Terri Walheim and
Denise Lewis, and I will in-
troduce you to the tremen-
dous selection of health-en-
hancing vitamins, herbs and
natural foods.
Chances are good that
you’ll find what you need to
diminish your ailments and
bring you back to good
health. Muscarella’s carries
the major brands, including
Garden of Life, Natural Or-
ganics, North American
Herb & Spice and Now and
more. They are all natural
and therefore free from the
side effects of prescriptions. I
highly recommend oil of
oregano products from
North American Herb &
Spice.
To build up your immune
system during flu and cold
season, I recommend using
products including vitamind
D and C, EpiCor, elderberry
and echinacea. Research has
shown that they are effective
against bacterial infections
and viruses.
We are constantly getting
new products in the store.
One of my new favorites is
Garden of Life’s Immune
Balance line. Immune Bal-
ance Daily provides immune
support for year-round well-
ness, while the rapid formula
offers support at the onset.
Stop in and ask about Gar-
den of Life’s Grow Bone Sys-
tem for stronger, healthier
bones.
Another effective remedy
is called Curamin. It was de-
veloped to enhance the
body’s natural defense mech-
anism for the relief of inflam-
mation and pain due to over-
use. Ninety percent of
satisfied customers experi-
ence relief in 45 minutes. We
love when people come back
and say, wow, that really
works.
We go the extra mile to
meet the needs of our cus-
tomers. We have a number
of customers who suffer
from celiac disease, an aller-
gic reaction to wheat prod-
ucts. To help them, we carry
a full line of wheat-free,
gluten-free products such as
breads, cereals, food bars,
pastas, flours
shells.
