Getting around Sharpsville
has gotten a whole lot easier
over the last few years
thanks to the many sidewalk
improvement projects which
have taken place in the bor-
ough.
Installation of nearly two
miles of sidewalks and more
than 100 ADA-accessible
ramps has taken place over
the last few years throughout
the town. The sidewalk con-
struction has come primarily
from the two-year PEN-
NVEST water line replace-
ment project, Streetscape
projects on Walnut Street
and Shenango Street, and
the Fourth Street Improve-
ment Project.
It is now
possible to

schools through the down-
town area and across the
bridge to South Pymatuning
on sidewalks and cross all
streets free of barriers. Fu-
ture plans include access to
the Sharpsville Recreation
Park and Shenango River
Lake along High Street.
South Pymatuning officials
also are seeking grant assis-
tance to extend the sidewalk
to school and township
recreation facilities.
Borough officials have
worked closely with Sen.
Bob Robbins, State Rep.
Mark Longietti, Waltz Con-
sultants, Winslow & Associ-
ates, PennDOT, Mercer
County Regional Planning
and the Mercer County Met-
ropolitan Organization to ob-
tain funding for the various
projects that have made
these improvements possi-
ble.
The borough also has an
ADA committee set up to
monitor and advise officials
and contractors as improve-
ments must meet strict
guidelines to ensure accessi-
bility.
The borough also offers
assistance to residents and
business owners wanting to
replace sidewalks in front of
their homes and businesses.
The borough program can
provide up to $500 toward re-
placement work. Residents
are encouraged to check
with the borough office for
details.

Many of you may remem-
ber seeing a television spot
of the National Association of
Realtors addressing the state
of real estate in general fol-
lowed by the advice that
every market is different and
to consult a local Realtor.
In so far as the Grove City
area real estate market is
concerned, no truer words
were ever spoken.
ln our opinion, the total
sales volume in the Grove
City area market did not de-
cline until 2008, with the ero-
sion in the price of individual
houses becoming more evi-
dent in 2010 and, hopefully,
bottoming out in 2011.
Sales volume began the
road back in 2010 and con-
tinued in 2011, at the same
time the price of individual
homes was eroding.
In our estimation the
housing downturn hit our
market later and less severe-
ly than the nation as a
whole.
We forecast for 2012 a
continuing increase in total
sales volume and individual
housing prices stabilizing or
declining slightly if at all fol-
lowing the substantial price
decline of individual houses
during 2011.
In general owners needing
to sell took less in 2011.
Owners not needing to sell
did not, with many of them
withdrawing the listings
rather than take the prices
being offered.
