Mercer Area Senior Citizens
will have a noon tureen on Monday
in the social hall of the Immaculate
Heart of Mary Church, Penn Av-
enue, Mercer.
Speaker will be Christopher
Wright, a financial consultant, from
New Castle.
ä
The Lions, Lioness and Leo’s
of District 14F
will gather at 10:30
a.m. Sunday at Greene Township
Municipal Building, located two
miles south of Interstate 90 and
Route 8 on Tate Road.
The morning will begin with a
new member orientation session led
by the district membership chairper-
son, Lion Tom Dunn.
Representatives from the following
Lions supported organizations will be
on hand to share information and
discuss the various programs and
services they have to offer: Erie Cen-
ter for the Blind and Visually Handi-
capped, Keystone Blind Association
of Crawford County, Lions Eye Bank
of NW Pennsylvania and the Penn-
sylvania Lions Foundation.
Lunch will be served from noon to
1 p.m. for $5 per person.
District Governor Jim McFarland,
officers and district chairperson will
begin the afternoon session at 1:30
p.m.
There will be an arts and craft ses-
sion available for those not involved
in the District Cabinet meeting.

The Mercer County Fire Chiefs
Association
meeting will begin at 8
p.m. Tuesday at Mercer East End
Volunteer Fire Department.
Nomination and election of offi-
cers for the year 2000 will be held.
A date, location and costs for the
Christmas dinner will be discussed.
Also covered during the meeting will
be the start up of essentials class and
select location.
Dues for the year 2000 are now
due and payable at the meeting or
mail to: Mercer County Fire Chiefs
Association, Box 1263, Hermitage
Pa., 16148. Yearly dues are $10.

Black Men for Progress
will
meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mer-
cer County Housing Authority Cen-
ter 211 Federal St., Farrell.

Adult, Christian Singles
Group
meets bi-weekly at Bethlehem
Baptist Church, Wallis Avenue,
Sharon.
This is a fellowship group open to
single adults in the community. The
next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Nov.
19.
ä The
Hermitage Historical Soci-
ety
will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at
the Hermitage Municipal Building.
Attorney John Reed will be the
guest speaker. He will discuss the re-
pair and restoration of the Trout Is-
land Cemetery. His son Brice coordi-
nated this project to earn his Boy
Scout Eagle award. The project was
completed in 1999.
Members and guests are invited.
The society will have the following
items for sale at the meeting: Calen-
dars $8, note cards $4 per pack and
postal cards $2 for 10.
The Hermitage Historical Society
Quilters will be drawing the winning
ticket for the quilt they made. The
Cat’s Meow of the Stewart House
are also going to be for sale.

all-you-can-eat pancake
and sausage breakfast
will be
served from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at
Zion’s Reformed Church, 260 Main
St., Greenville.
Tickets prices are: $5 for adults,
$3 for 6-12 year-olds, and 5 and un-
der is free.
Tickets will be available at the
door. Proceeds will benefit Habitat
for Humanity.

Jeffrey Trott,
son of Jack and
Judy Trott, 1625 George St. Ext.,
Hermitage, was named to Pittsburgh
Technical Institute’s summer quarter
high honor list. He earned a 3.92
grade point average.
The alumnus of Hickory High
School, Hermitage, is a graphic de-
sign major.

Jennifer McConnell,
Slippery
Rock, is working for the state De-
partment of Public Welfare as part of
a 15-week internship sponsored by
State System of Higher Education.
The daughter of Judy and Donald
McConnell is a junior public adminis-
tration major at Slippery Rock Uni-
versity. She is one of 15 students tak-
ing part in Harrisburg Internship Se-
mester program, which allows stu-
dents to work in state government
while earning a full semester’s worth
of credits.
Ms. McConnell is a 1997 Slippery
Rock High School alumna.

alumnae are members of Geneva
College Marching Band.
Sabrina Dortin,
daughter of Candy
Dortin, Mercer; and
Wendy Fergu-
son,
daughter of Robert and Jean-
nette Ferguson, Greenville, are
sophomore chemistry majors at the
Beaver Falls, Pa.-based college.

Imogene Renee Kriess,
daugh-
ter of Kenneth and Bonnie Kriess,
Kennerdell, Pa., graduated June 26
from Northern Virginia Criminal Jus-
tice Academy with a deputy law en-
forcement certificate.
The Sharon High School alumna
also holds a bachelor’s degree in the-
ater of arts from Pennsylvania State
University and a cosmetology license
from Empire Beauty School.
Before moving to Sharon, Ms.
Kriess attended Butler (Pa.) High
School.
She is a deputy sheriff with Ar-
lington County (Va.) Sheriff Depart-
ment.
