Sharpsville students received awards and scholarships totaling $203,027 on June 3.
- Natasha Burns _ $4,000 National Merit Special Scholarship given by Greyhound Lines, Inc.
- Elizabeth Candiotti_ $3,000 Slippery Rock University Academic Affairs, $1,000 Strimbu Memorial Fund Leader, $2,400 Kenneth Burton Roberts SRU and $300 student council scholarships and an American Citizenship award.
- Kathy Jo Divens _ $4,000 Mercer County $4,000 Dean's, $6,000 Mueller and $4,000 Haller Enterprise Institute scholarships, all given by Thiel College, Greenville; $350 Henry G. Evans, $300 student council and $100 Kaibas Memorial scholarships; Tom Burns Academic All-Stars $100 bond from Mercer County Hall of Fame; $100 College Club Award; and American Citizenship, The Herald Academic All-Star, Navy Honors Program, National School Choral, and Army Scholar-Athlete awards.
- Bonnie Hiryak _ $1,000 Farrell Wolves Club scholarship.
- Shaun Jones _ $6,000 New Castle School of Trades and $1,000 General Motors vo-tech scholarships.
- Erin Kelly _ $28,000 Bethany (W.Va.) College faculty scholarship and Navy honors.
- Julie Killa _ $26,000 Strub Merit Award given by Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and $2,000 Scottish Rite Abbott Scholarship; $300 student council scholarship; $50 Sharon Elks Lodge 103 salutatorian award; $100 Mary and Vincent Devine School and Community Award and Shenango Valley Performing Arts awards; National Chopin Piano, Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen, The Herald Academic All-Star, American Citizenship and academic excellence awards; and Navy honors.
- Sara Lieb _ $27,500 Westminster College trustee, $1,500 Shenango Valley American Business Women's Association and $300 student council scholarships; Westminster Chemistry Award; Veterans of Foreign Wars first-place in art competition; American Citizenship, Air Force Math and Science and Sharpsville Women's Club Volunteer awards; Navy honors; and outstanding physics student.
- Adam Lucich _ $2,400 Kenneth Burton Roberts, $4,728 Presidential and $27,500 trustee scholarships all from Westminster College, New Wilmington; $300 student council scholarship; Tandy Technologies Award; and Navy honors.
- Josh Masters _ $1,000 Farrell Wolves Club scholarship and Navy honors.
- Jennifer Robinson _ $40,000 Jacob Albright Scholarship given by Albright College, Reading, Pa.; $20,000 Pennsylvania Governor's School, $750 Sharpsville Area Education Association, $300 student council scholarship, $100 College Women's Association and $100 Sharon Elks Lodge 103 valedictorian scholarships; and Tandy Technologies, Navy, The Herald Academic All-Star and academic excellence awards.
- Gina Spon _ $4,500 Outstanding Achievement Scholarship given by Valley Forge (Pa.) Christian College and American Citizenship Award.
- Dennis Sump _ $3,000 Slippery Rock University Academic Affairs Scholarship.
- Elizabeth Thiry _ $10,000 Youngstown State University Presidential, $2,400 Kenneth Burton Roberts, $750 Sharpsville Area Education Association, $500 Service Club of Sharpsville, $500 National Service Matching and $300 student council scholarships; $250 Alex Krotenak math excellence, Tandy Technologies, American Citizenship, The Herald Academic All-Star, Navy and academic excellence awards; and second place in Eco-Meet.
- Charlene Young _ $22,400 grant, $10,000 Presidential Scholarship, $8,000 choral scholarship and $2,000, all from Wheeling (W.Va.) Jesuit University; $300 student council scholarship; $1,000 Horizon Hospital System Auxiliary educational assistance, $50 Kiwanianne Club, principal's leadership, National School Choral and American Citizenship awards.
- Gretchen Achenbach, Aaron Barth and Patty Funk _ second place in the Eco-Meet.
- Shaun Adams and Jamie Whitmore _ $25 Sharpsville Women's Club volunteer awards.
- Russ Adkins _ Xerox and Wendy's High School Heisman awards.this is academic
- Scott Bailey _ first place in national mathematics test.
- Tim Banas and Jackie Shuttleworth _ Westminster College chemistry awards.
- Ted Brinkley _ Tom Burns Academic All-Stars $100 bond from Mercer County Hall of Fame, Army Scholar-Athlete Award, national mathematics test runner-up and Navy honors.
- Joe DeAngelis _ $150 Band Boosters award, first place in the Sharpsville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404's Voice of Democracy contest and Semper Fidelis band and Louis Armstrong Jazz Band awards.
- Jamie Flaherty _ $300 student council scholarship, Devil's Advocate editor and fourth place in Voice of Democracy contest.
- Rachael Fustos _ $25 Sharpsville Women's Club volunteer and John Philip Sousa band awards.
- Aaron Johnson _ second place in the VFW art competition.
- Matt Kollar _ second place in the Voice of Democracy contest.
- Tammy Lowers _ $500 Penn State Cosmetology Academy Award.
- Terry McAdams _ Rotary Youth Leadership award.
- Alison Minoff _ Wendy's High School Heisman Award.
- Aimee Neeley _ English Department award.
- Amy Petricini _ American Citizenship Award and WYTV's Senior Salute.
- Brian Pifer _ Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.
- Brice Reed _ Winner of American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and VFW essay contests.
- Jennifer Reichart _ American Citizenship Award.
- Erica Sigler _ VFW art competition, third place.
- Jill Thompson _ Navy honors.
- Brian Tuskan _ Voice of Democracy, third place.
- Michelle Wiseman _ Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, second place at Eco-Meet and American Citizenship Award.
English teacher Walter Karsonovich was selected as Teacher of the Year.
Nominated by senior Amy Petricini, Karsonovich was presented with a plaque from the National Honor Society.
