Big guys come up big in boys action

The big guys played a big role in deciding Tuesday night's Boys' Underclassmen Division quarterfinal-round games in the annual Sharon Lions Club-W.U. Hoyle Tournament of Champions, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

Led by 6-foot-8 Josh Morgan's game-high 28-point performance, Grove City routed Pizza Joe's (Mohawk), 72-38, while 6-4 Adam Zajac's 30-point outburst paced Slippery Rock to a 69-39 conquest of Farrell in games held at Sharon High gym.

Slippery Rock, which built a 34-20 halftime lead, also received 10 points from Tim Maxwell. Zajac's 14-for-16 free-throw accuracy led Slippery Rock to a 25-for-33 showing at the charity stripe. Jackson Jones' 11 markers led Farrell.

Grove City 72,
Pizza Joe's (Mohawk) 38

Grove City's Morgan enabled the Eagles to easily advance into Thursday's semifinals, as he also displayed 9-for-12 marksmanship from the charity stripe and a 3-point field goal for good measure. Ryan Surrena and Craig Otten evenly divided an additional 22 points for Grove City.

Pizza Joe's, which trailed 30-16 at intermission, failed to post a double-digit scorer.

Thursday's Boys' Underclassmen Division semis are slated for 3 and 6:45 p.m.
