`Steelerettes out of playoffs`

The Shannock Valley High girls basketball team had five players score in double figures as they downed Farrell in the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs, 73-20.

Shannock Valley (17-5) broke out to a 21-5 lead after the first quarter and held the Steelerettes (3-16) scoreless in the second stanza to hold a 42-5 halftime margin.

Lindsey Brown scored 16 points to pace Shannock Valley, and Laura Hall added a dozen, while three others had 11 points.

Monique Marshall scored five points to lead Farrell, which was down 61-12 by the third-quarter turn.
