Lucas sparks Warriors to victory in opener
ANDOVER _ The Brookfield High School girls basketball team was pushed to the limit, but nonetheless was able to win its opener in the Pymatuning Valley Division III Sectional/District playoff opener, 38-36, over Middlefield-Cardinal Saturday evening.
The Lady Warriors led 8-5 after one frame, 14-11 at the intermisson and 23-20 after three quarters.
Shelley Lucas bucketed 11 points, includind a trey, to pace Brookfield (14-7), which connected on only 13 of 53 (24.5 percent) floor shots.
Cardinal (11-11) was led by Shannon Parnaby's game-high 13 points, including a trey.
Both teams converted only half of their free throws, although Brookfield registered two more than Cardinal, spelling the difference.
