Grove City's Rendos falls, but heads to state


CLARION Ñ Grove City High heavyweight star Joe Rendos is headed for the PIAA State Class AAA Championships Thursday.

Rendos lost a hard-fought, 3-1 decision to ClearfieldÕs Tim Taylor in the finals of the Northwest AAA Regional Championships Saturday night at Clarion University.

Taylor is 26-0 on the year, while Rendos dropped to 29-2, with both losses coming at the hands of Taylor.

In the semifinals, Rendos defeated Greg Dinsmore of Conneaut Lake, 6-2 in overtime.

D.J. Johnson (135) and Justin Cook (140) of Grove City also qualified for regions, but were eliminated early.

Other District 10 wrestlers who claimed regional titles were: R.J. Paterniti (112), Erie Cathedral Prep; Josh Moore (119), Franklin; Dusty Heist (171) and Matt Hogue (189), both of Meadville.
