Coach Eric Mount is high on this coming season, not only because of quality he has returning, but because of quantity.

"We have 23 kids out," said Mount. "The nice thing about this year is that we have all the weights covered and aren't going to forfeit three weights. We spotted teams 18 points last year and we lost five matches, two by one point and the other three by four points."

Gone to graduation are some solid performers, including Brad Bell, Luke Slater, Jeff King, Adam Smith and Steve Fulton.

But the Sailors return several top matmen, led by state qualifier Drew Rose.

"We have a nice group of freshmen and we have a lot of experience in the junior class and senior class," said Mount. "We're all excited to see what the young kids are going to do. All are coming in with experience; they've wrestled for several years."

Three freshmen are competing for the 103 and 112 posts, Tim Gadsby, Jay Brownlee and Chad Smith. Freshman Cody Smith will be at 119, with senior Jeremy Fry at 125, pushed by freshman Wade Alexander

Rose, a junior, will be at 130, with competition from senior Jimmy Saeler. Sophomore Nate Benninger will fill the 135 slot, with senior Bill Brownlee at 140. Junior letterman Evan Hoobler is at 145, followed by senior letterman Ryan Smith or senior Jason Greggs.

Sophomore Jerry Drew is at 160 with senior letterman Mike Bromley at 171, backed by sophomore Deke Ison. Senior Tom Zagorski, a transfer from Hubbard, will be competing at 189 with junior Phil Rau and senior Isaac Dean. Sophomore letterman Alex Barbour, a district qualifer, and sophomore Brad Watson and seniors John Galantine and Mike Sheffer are competing for the heavyweight spot.

"I'm looking for a lot out of Mike Bromley being he's a returning regional qualifier," said Mount. "And I think Evan Hoobler is really going to take the next step this year, he was injured at districts.

"It's kind of hard to say what freshman are going to do, but I've got some high hopes."

Mount is picking Maplewood as the team to beat in the French Creek Valley Conference.

Assistant coaches in the Lakeview program include Joe Fiorenza, Rusty Wright, A.J. Walton, Les Dye and Dave Hoobler.
