NOTE: At one point we had begun posting some of our local columnists. We have kept the links below to older columns, most of which are relatively timeless and still worth a read
Local columnists
Local life and memories
- The Way We Were and Sunday Brunch by
Wally Wachter, retired managing editor of The Herald,. His work for
the newspaper has touched seven, yes, seven, decades. And he has the stories
to show for it.
- Wanderings by Pam Mansell, our New
Wilmington correspondent.
- Journal from Jimtown by Richard Young
-- a copyeditor, Jeffersonian scholar and bonafide owner of the fattest
dog in Jamestown. (with ribbons to prove it)
Language
- My Word!, an entertaining
monthly look at the words that make up our speech and prose by Sherman
S. Jubelirer, a retired businessman and self-described verbivore,
a devourer of words.
Good news
- Thumb's Up, by Herald Editor
Jim Raykie. Who says The Herald doesn't print any good news? His
weekly summary gives an extra round of applause to those who were featured
for their good deeds and accomplishments.
Various and sundry
- John Zavinski, director of
graphics and technology, occasionally dashes out a column when the muses
move him (and when he isn't preoccupied maintaining this Web site or redesigning
The Herald)
