COOLSPRING TOWNSHIP

Weed management is subject of Crops Day

The 35th Annual Crops Day is scheduled for Feb. 18 at the Mercer County Career Center, a mile north of Mercer on state Route 58 in Coolspring Township.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and producers will have time to talk with the different ag dealers with displays. Lunch will be $4 and tickets may be found at the various agriculture businesses in Mercer County.

This year’s speakers are Dr. Bill Curran, Dr. Marvin Hall and Gene Gantz. Curran is the Penn State Weed Specialist and will be speaking on new weed management programs and invasive weeds in agronomic crops.

Dr. Hall, Forage Management Specialist with Penn State University, will provide information on selecting a forage species and potato leafhopper resistant alfalfa. Gantz is the president of Ag Risk Strategies, Inc. and will provide an update of pending federal and state insurance legislation and a side-by-side performance comparison of risk management products, using worksheets and sample problems.

The Crops Day Program has been assigned three category 01 credits toward pesticide applicators licensing by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
