Tri-state tillage conference set for Feb. 29

Agricultural organizations from Northwest Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and Western New York have joined forces to host the third Annual Tri-State (OH-PA-NY) Conservation Tillage Conference.

The conference is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 29 at the Radisson Hotel of Sharon, Shenango Township, (just a few miles east of the Ohio-Pa. border off of I-80). This year’s theme is “Conservation Tillage — The New Millennium.” The conference is sponsored by Ohio State University, Penn State University, Cornell University, Penn Soil Resource Conservation and Development Area and the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The conference was developed to help agricultural producers implement conservation tillage practices for the unique soil and weather conditions of the region. The conference features a commercial trade show and keynote addresses on: Nitrogen Management for No Till; How Earthworms Affect Soil Quality; How to Get Started with Precision Farming; Perennial Weed Management; Managing Sclerotinia in Reduced Till Alfalfa: Understanding Soil Fertility, Soil Structure and Health; Effect of Conservation Tillage on Global Warming and Understanding Your Planters Performance.

Certified Crop Adviser “Continuing Education Units” will be available for those attending. There will be a registration limit of 300 people and the cost of the conference is $15. The cost includes lunch and registration materials. The registration deadline is February 21.
