HERMITAGE

Business Association is working to unite, aid business community

By Karen Reed
President, Hermitage Business Association

The Hermitage Business Association was founded in 1983 to serve the needs of Hermitage business. The HBA is made up of retail, professional, industrial and public sector individuals who are committed to promoting Hermitage’s continuing economic progress.

Although Hermitage is quite diverse economically (from agriculture to high-tech manufacturing and everything in between), the HBA strives to develop a unified business community. The committee is continually organizing cooperative marketing programs, promoting community events and striving to build a better community in which to work and live.

The HBA has sponsored such events as the Father’s Day Car Show, high school essay contests, and Easter and Christmas promotions for city business. The organization has recently helped the City to purchase two “Welcome to Hermitage” signs to be displayed in prominent locations entering Hermitage.

These will complement the larger version on Route 18 South that was installed last year by the Route 60 interchange. The Women’s Club is also participating and has committed to a sign, and there is a need for three more “Welcome” signs. Interested parties are asked to please participate as well.

The highlight of the past year was HBA’s involvement in the enormously successful Hermitage Holiday Light Parade. In joint effort with the City of Hermitage, Shenango Valley Mall merchants, the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, and business and civic organizations, the parade was able to bring area residents together in a clean, festive event to help promote the holiday season.

In only two years the parade has drawn regional interest, so the 3rd Annual Light Parade is eagerly anticipated to be bigger and better than before.

HBA is looking forward to a very busy and productive 2000. Monthly meetings are held at noon on the third Tuesday at local restaurants.

New members are welcome; a membership drive will be under way by the end of March. The HBA is looking for creative and talented people to help strengthen and promote new ideas in the community. For more information or membership, please call me at 981-8485.
