SHARON
Minister, author to speak at Interfaith service in Sharon
A special bicentennial interfaith service is in store for the county.
The celebration will be held at 3 p.m. May 21 at Tiger Stadium in Sharon to honor Mercer County’s bicentennial year and to thank God for the countless blessings given to the county.
Rev. Frank Firko of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, and attorney Michael Ristvey, co-chair the Inter-Faith Service branch of the Bicentennial Committee Executive Board.
They came up with a special Celebration of Faith service that includes the many religious faiths and denominations of Mercer County, such as Roman and Byzantine Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians, nondenominational and Orthodox churches, Jewish and others.
Rev. Peter Marshall of Cape Cod, Mass., will be the guest speaker. He is a son of the Rev. Peter Marshall who served as chaplain of the U.S. Senate from 1947 to 1949 — and Catherine Marshal LeSourd, well-known Christian inspirational author.
Graduating from Yale University and Princeton Theological Seminary, Marshall was ordained in 1965 and served in pastoral ministry for 12 years before devoting himself to national ministry and writing books.
In case of rain, the service will be moved to the Sharon High School Gymnasium.
