Hit-run driver was drunk, police say

A woman was arrested Monday night after she hit an oncoming car and drove off, Sharon police said.

Josephine E. Harakal, 43, of 2051 Valley View Road, Hermitage, was arrested at 10:32 p.m. in a Chestnut Street parking lot on charges of drunken and careless driving and causing an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, police said.

Police said the Harakal vehicle was headed north on Dock Street when it hit a car head-on at Budd Street. The other car, driven by a Sharon man, was stopped at the light waiting to turn left, police said.

Ms. Harakal drove away after the accident, police said. They said her front license plate was left at the scene.

Police said they caught up with her in a parking lot a few blocks away.
