WHEATLAND
Meeting designed to help those in need land a home
Prospective homeowners interested in buying one of the five homes being built on Woodland Avenue in Wheatland are invited to attend a meeting at 7 p.m. April 18 at the Wheatland borough building, 71 Broadway Ave.
The homes are being built by the borough and Community Homebuyers Inc., a nonprofit company operated by the Mercer County Housing Authority.
The meeting also could be useful for people who want to buy homes elsewhere.
Those interested in the Woodland homes can never have owned a home before or not owned one in the last three years, earn 80 percent of the Mercer County median household income or less and be able to pay a mortgage.
Potential homeowners also must attend mortgage counseling with a counselor approved by the Federal Home Loan Bank, but they do not have to have done so by April 18.
Residents of Wheatland who do not own homes and those displaced by the 1985 tornado will be given application preference. People who have been employed for three years and are participating in community service activities also are preferred.
Funding options, including state and federal grant opportunities, will be discussed at the meeting.
Registration: Debbie Paul, 983-1508.
