Sister Dush will deliver Christy lecture
Sister Therese Dush, founder of a variety of ministries for the poor, will give the 13th annual Wayne H. Christy Memorial Lecture at 7 p.m. Sunday in Westminster College’s Wallace Memorial Chapel.
The Wayne Christ Memorial Lectureship honors the late Dr. Wayne Christy, faculty member in Westminster’s religion and philosophy department from 1942 until his retirement in 1983. The Christy Lecture recognizes men and women who relate religion to issues of contemporary life.
In 1976, Sister Dush founded Young People Who Care, a Christian leadership program for youth and young adults who minister to the poor and disadvantaged, which includes a shelter for women and children. In 1982 she established an adult retreat center in Frenchville, and in 1984 she founded the Religious Community of Anawin. She opened an ecumenical prayer center in Frenchville in 1997 and is spearheading the development of a family youth facility.
In addition to serving a brief period of time with the poor in a Third World country, she also has served on numerous Clearfield County boards.
The event is free and open to the public.
Information: Dr. Darwin W. Huey, associate professor of education, 9467186.
