MERCER COUNTY AREA
P.O. pledges to stay open Monday
For procrastinators the Hermitage Post Office will be open late to post income tax returns.
The post office at Hermitage Square will be open until midnight Monday to weigh and post tax returns, the U.S. Postal Service said.
Because April 15 falls on Saturday, taxpayers have until midnight Monday to file returns without being penalized for late payment.
Hermitage is the only post office in Mercer County offering special hours.
However, the Brookfield Post Office at 6875 Warren-Sharon Road will stay open an extra half-hour on Monday, until 5 p.m.
Here are tips for last-minute filers offered by the Postal Service:
Every piece of first-class mail deposited correctly before midnight April 17 will be postmarked with that all-important date.
If using an envelope other than the one provided by the Internal Revenue Service, be sure to address the form to: Internal Revenue Service, Philadelphia, PA 19255-0002.
Tax returns must have the correct postage. Many tax forms weigh more than 1 ounce and require additional postage. Tax returns should be weighed to ensure proper postage.
