Former sheriff faces 2 countsof income tax evasion, feds say
Former Hartford Sheriff Ronald Rich, now of Campbell, Ohio, has been charged with two counts of income tax evasion.
According to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice, the charges were filed Friday by Emily M. Sweeney, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.
Rich was charged with attempting to evade income taxes in the amount of $34,986 for the years 1993 and 1994, according to a news released from the U.S. Attorney. He filed false and fraudulent joint personal tax incomes, reporting no taxable income and $848 in taxes owed, Ms. Sweeney said.
The joint taxable income of Rich and his wife, Juanita, for those two years was about $103,055, with taxes amounting to $35,834, according to the news release. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John M. Siegel after an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service’s Youngstown office.
