GREENVILLE
GALSA hires corporate fund-raiser for rec projects
Greenville Area Leisure Services Association recently contracted with Measure Communications, Harmony, Pa., to seek corporate contributions for recreation projects.
Supported primarily by the state stadium funds grant and revenue from Greenville borough taxpayers, GALSA is undertaking $5.5 million in recreation projects. They include a sports complex in West Salem Township, a new recreation center and renovations to Greenville Memorial Swimming Pool and at Riverside Park.
GALSA is hoping to offset the local share of the costs of the projects through foundation grants and corporate contributions.
A 10-mill tax increase was imposed on borough property owners this year to pay for the recreation projects, as well as for a new fire station and the local share of the costs of downtown urban landscaping. Another 10-mill increase in 2001 could be reduced if fund-raising efforts are successful, borough officials have said.
Measure Communications will receive 10 percent of the funds collected from corporations.
