Volunteers are desperately needed for SVI work camp

The Shenango Valley Initiative is sponsoring a Group Work Camp that will bring 300 young people from around the nation to the Shenango Valley this summer to paint and repair about 75 homes of low-income families. The work is scheduled for July 30 through Aug. 5.
“This project will benefit the entire Shenango Valley by upgrading homes in need of paint and repairs,” according to Kevin Kavanagh, who is in charge of the program. “Not only the homeowners, but also the community will benefit by the improvements. We need the help this weekend for the program to continue.”
Local volunteers are needed this weekend to fill out applications for homeowners who need help. The work will be done absolutely free of charge to the homeowners.
Volunteers are needed from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s School, 786 E. State St., Sharon, for instruction on filling out forms for the work.
From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday volunteers are needed to go to the homes that will be painted or repaired to fill out the forms. Others will be needed to input the information into computers to determine the amount of supplies that will be needed to complete the work.
Those interested in helping should call Bob Clarke at the SVI office, 346-4165.
