Criminal charges filed in SUV crash
Charges have been filed against the Wheatland man who was one of two drivers involved in a head-on sport utility vehicle crash Sunday along Broadway Avenue, police said.
Justin A. Kirkland, 24, of 61 Vaughn Ave., was charged with aggravated assault with a vehicle while driving under the influence and drunken driving, police said. Kirkland also was cited for driving left of center, police said.
Kirkland was arraigned Tuesday before District Justice Henry J. Russo and released on his own recognizance.
Police said Kirkland’s 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee crossed the center line at 2:10 a.m. on Broadway Avenue, Hermitage, and slammed into another SUV driven by Michael Dando, 26, of New Castle. Both SUVs were demolished.
Jamie Cannon, 23, of West Pittsburg, Lawrence County, a passenger in Dando’s SUV, was seriously injured in the crash and flown to UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, police said. A hospital spokeswoman said Ms. Cannon was discharged Thursday.
Kirkland and Dando were treated at UPMC Horizon, Farrell.
