Jury finds city man guilty of raping 8-year-old girl
A Mercer County Common Pleas Court jury on Wednesday found a Sharon man guilty of having sexual intercourse with a girl who was 8 years old at the time.
The jury before Judge Thomas R. Dobson found Lucian Simpson III, 38, of 477 E. Silver St., Sharon, guilty of rape, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, indecent exposure, endangering the welfare of a child and corruption of minors. A charge of sexual assault was withdrawn previously.
Sharon police said in a probable cause affidavit that the incident occurred in a Fourth Avenue home between January 1999 and April 1999. In early January, police said they interviewed the girl who described the sexual encounter with Simpson, the affidavit said.
Simpson was taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $100,000 bond.
