Prankster suspended, could face expulsion

A Delahunty Middle School student responsible for a bomb hoax last week at the school has been suspended and could face expulsion, Hermitage Superintendent Dr. Louis C. Mastrian said.

Class time was interrupted Wednesday and Thursday at Delahunty due to the hoaxes. The district has also had related incidents at the high school and Hermitage Middle School.

Mastrian said three students involved in this year’s incidents have been expelled. “The district will not tolerate actions that jeopardize health and safety,” Mastrian said.

“The board does not take terroristic threats lightly. We have expelled in the past and we will continue to expel,” Mastrian added.

“Expulsion is the rule of thumb,” Mastrian said. Police said they are continuing to review the matter — to determine if the case merits legal action.

Mastrian noted that court authorities and police have “been involved tremendously” in handling the situations in the district.
