42 Hickory students inducted into society

Hickory High School inducted 42 juniors and seniors who have met high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character into its chapter of the National Honor Society Tuesday.

Over the years, the active Hickory chapter has donated thousands of dollars to needy organizations and families in the area. The American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Diabetic Association and St. Judes Hospital are among those who have benefited.

Inductees were chosen by a faculty council. The council selected students based on many merits, including involvement in school and community activities, exemplary conduct and a minimum weighted grade point average of 3.5.

The National Honor Society is one of the oldest and most prestigious high school organizations. Chapters exist in more than 60 percent of the nation’s high schools.
