SHARON
Injured boy in stable condition
A Sharon boy remained hospitalized this morning after a fire Wednesday that started in the bedroom of his second-floor apartment.
Charlie Jenkins, 12, was in stable condition this morning in the pediatric intensive care unit of Tod Children’s Hospital in Youngstown, a spokesperson said. His brother, John, 16, was released from the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System where he was treated for smoke inhalation, a hospital spokesperson said.
Their sister, Nikki, 7, was treated for smoke inhalation at the Sharon hospital after the fire at 2:22 a.m. in their apartment at 344 S. Oakland Ave. The children’s father, Charlie, was not home at the time of the blaze and police could not find him so the children were placed in the custody of Mercer County Children and Youth Services.
No one at the agency was available to comment on whether the children have been returned to their father.
A state fire marshal investigated the cause, but firefighters did not have a report this morning.
