Suspect’s hearing set at Polk

(AP) — A judge agreed to hold a man’s hearing on charges that he sexually assaulted four mentally retarded men at the institution where the alleged abuses occurred.

District Justice Douglas Garwick on Wednesday postponed a hearing for David Wayne Anderson, 34, of Clintonville. The former aide at Polk Center is charged with assaulting the men from June 1994 to March this year.

One of the victims, a 30-year-old man with autism, gave nonsensical answers Wednesday to a prosecutor’s questions. The defense challenged the man’s competency to testify. A psychologist said the victim might be able to testify in a familiar setting. Garwick set the hearing for June 26.
