Youngstown realist to show paintings at Valley Arts Guild

A reception will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday to open a show of paintings by James O’Malley at the Valley Arts Guild, Sharon.

The show will run through June 30.

Calling his work “Adventures in Realism,” O’Malley is self-taught.

“Many of my works are a result of my own photos,” the Youngstown man said, “Interesting subject matter, strong colors, shadows and a good composition are what I aim for in every painting.”

O’Malley, who has shown at the Guild before, has also shown in the National Midyear Show at the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, and the Grand Exhibition in Akron.
