Chadderton, Stevenson honored by Shenango Valley Chamber

Paul Chadderton and Dick Stevenson were honored by the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce. at the organization’s annual dinner Thursday night.

Chadderton, Shenango Township was named the Chamber Person of the Year, and Stevenson, Grove City, received the Henry Evans Volunteer of the Year award.

Both men were honored before the crowd of 400 attending the chamber’s annual dinner at Tiffany’s Banquet Center in Brookfield.

The retired chairman of Ed Chadderton Trucking Inc., Sharon, Chadderton has had an extensive career in trucking.

A graduate of Sharon High School, he attended Youngstown State University and worked as a truck driver for three years. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany from 1953 to 1955.

Since 1955 he worked in all areas of Ed Chadderton Trucking. He started a buyout of the company in 1981 and in 1988 became the company’s sole owner.

He has been a member of numerous local organizations including the chamber, Mercer County United Way board, Pennsylvania Economy League, the Youngstown Traffic Club and the former McDowell National Bank board.

Chadderton also is a member of the Sharon Elks, Farrell Lion’s Club, Sharon Country Club and Oak Tree County Club.

Over the years he has supported Pennsylvania State University Shenango Valley Campus and helped to put into business Fast Lube in Sharon, Thompson Fabricating in Wheatland and Penn Ohio Logistics Inc., Struthers, Ohio.

He and his wife, Eleanor, have three daughters.

"I cannot believe I am up here,’’ Chadderton told the audience. "It certainly is a great honor for me to accept this award.’’

Stevenson, is a former Mercer County Commissioner who is running for the Pennsylvania’s 8th State House District which includes sections of Mercer, Butler and Armstrong counties.

Serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 to 1972, he was an air crew member in Korea and was awarded the Air Medal for flying hazardous duty missions.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree from St. Francis College he began working for RCA Corp. He returned to school to get a master’s degree in business from Suffolk University in Massachusetts.

He started his own Grove City real estate appraisal firm, Stevenson and Co. in 1981 and served as a member of Grove City council from 1985 to 1993. During that time he was active in the Wolf Creek-Slippery Rock Council of Governments.

In 1995 he was elected as a Mercer County Commissioner where he served as chairman for four years.

Stevenson has been involved in a number of community activities over the years such as past president of the Grove City Rotary Club, the Grove City Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Mercer County Board of Realtors. He recently was named chairman of Penn-Northwest Development Corp.

He is an active member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Mercer where he has served as an elder and a Sunday school teacher.

He and his wife, Sue, have been married for 28 years and have two children.

"I hope you know how much it means to me to receive this award,’’ Stevenson told the audience. "I feel no more worthy than anyone else here, but it is a great award.’’
