BROOKFIELD

Grant will help police buy six bulletproof vests

Brookfield Township police received a $1,320 grant from the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Program toward the purchase of six bullet-proof vests. The grant amount covers about a third of the cost to the department, which totals $3,774.

The department keeps the vests for five years and then passes them on to reserve officers or offers them to other police departments with less funding, said Brookfield police Chief Dan Faustino.

"We’re always researching grants to save the taxpayers money," he said. "It’s a way to make the money we have go further."

The grant is part of a $46,000 U.S. Department of Justice federal fund for the 17th Congressional District of Ohio.
