UPMC Horizon fetes residents, interns headed for further study

UPMC Horizon recently held its Annual Intern/Resident Recognition Banquet at Oak Tree Country Club in Shenango Township.

The five interns honored were:

  • Dr. Jill Eckert. She will continue her post-graduate training in anesthesiology at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey.

  • Dr. Benjamin Garner. He will begin is post-graduate training in the United States Navy as a general medical officer and will pursue a practice in orthopedics.

  • Dr. Terry J. McAnallen. He will begin is post-graduate training in family practice residency at Horizon.

  • Dr. William Woods. He will continue his post-graduate training with an orthopedic residency at St. Joseph's Health Center, Warren, Ohio, and Horizon.

  • Dr. H. Jeffrey Wright. He will continue his postgraduate training in physical rehabilitation at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center, Charlottesville, Va.

    The three residents honored were:

  • Dr. Valerie Rockenberger. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Horizon. She has entered into practice with her sister, Dr. Venus Wittenauer, in East Palestine, Ohio.

  • Dr. Simon Lavi. He completed a one-year residency in general surgery at Horizon and his orthopedic residency training at St. Joseph Health Center in affiliation with Horizon. He has accepted a position in the Department of Neuro-Trauma & Reconstructive Spinal Surgery Fellowship at Jacqueline Perry Institute, Rancho Los Amigos Hospital at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

  • Dr. John Williams Jr. He completed his general surgery residency training. He will pursue a practice in plastic surgery.

    New interns who will begin internships at Horizon on Sunday are: Dr. Christopher Bellicini, Dr. Daniel Brown, Dr. Melissa Knarr, Dr. Amanda Hartwell and Dr. Kathy McNutt. New to the general surgery residency is second year resident Dr. Danielle Duchini. Drs. Armando Sciullo, Erik Branstetter and Brock Generalovich will continue residencies in general surgery.
