SHARON

Small Ships Review means more detours

As if motorists driving through Sharon haven't encountered enough detours because of the implosion of the Oakland Avenue Viaduct, another will be in place Friday for the annual Small Ships Review.

The review, sponsored by Best Wings USA, begins with a parade at 6 p.m. that starts on South Railroad Street, turns west onto East State Street, turns north onto Shenango Street, west on Silver Street to Penn Avenue.

At about 5:45 p.m. the following streets will be closed to vehicles for about 45 minutes:

  • Railroad between Silver and State streets.

  • East State from Dock Street to Shenango.

  • Shenango between Silver and East State

  • Pitt Street and Penn Avenue between Silver and Pitt.

Groups may register their floats between 3 and 5 p.m. Friday by picking up a form at Quaker Steak and Lube or Hot Rod Cafe.

The first 20 to 25 groups to register before Friday will receive prizes including, tickets to Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in Aurora, Ohio; concert tickets compliments of Y-103 radio; free buckets of wings; and T-shirts.

Ships will be launched into the Shenango River at 7 p.m. behind Penn State Shenango's campus just north of Veterans Bridge. Those that don't sink first will end their run just south of the Connelly Boulevard bridge, behind the Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant.
