Series of tea, talk events set at Farm

The positive response to a spiritual retreat in July, facilitated by Kathy Gracenin, has prompted more offerings by the dancer turned inner health guru.

A "High Tea and Talk" will be held the last Sunday of every month at The Farm, a retreat center about five miles north of Greenville on state Route 18, just south of Adamsville.

"The success of the retreat stimulated so much interest," said Mrs. Gracenin, of Transfer. "We want to keep the seeds alive that were planted at The Farm during the retreat."

The first talk is set for 3 p.m. Sunday and will feature Monsignor Ted Carter of Erie, who will discuss Centering Prayer, a movement of incorporating meditation into daily life, according to Mrs. Gracenin.

The second "High Tea and Talk" will be Oct. 28, where participants will meet at The Farm, then head to the Labyrinth at Lillibridge Farm on Conneaut Lake Road.

Walking the Labyrinth, which is mowed into the grass of the 155-acre farm owned by Edward L. Lillibridge, is prayer in motion, according to Mrs. Gracenin. The walk will be led by the Rev. Hydie R. Houston.

"As far as future talks, we will be surveying guests for the speakers they would like to hear and topics of interest," Mrs. Gracenin said. "We plan to get some special well-known speakers, but we also have some local people who are wonderful as well."

The cost of the tea is $10, which includes refreshments and helps cover the cost of the speaker.

Other offerings include a quarterly retreat, similar in spiritual style to the July retreat, with an emphasis on inner explorations with the help of such tools as yoga, Feng Shui, Reiki therapy -- a form of therapeutic touch -- meditation and prayer.

"Conversion is not what this is about. What it is about is a time to share. We need to get to the work of our spiritual self, our intuitive self," she said. "It's ecumenical. It's not about a particular religion."

Her husband, Nick Gracenin, who runs Nick Gracenin's Martial Arts Center in Sharon, is also planning to lead a Tai Chi weekend soon.

"We're in the process of developing a calendar of talks, retreats, Reiki certification, yoga certification and high teas," said Mrs. Gracenin, who is also planning a retreat for psychologists. "We can tailor-make retreats to suit groups' needs."

She hopes with the retreats and other inner explorations, she can help people find a deeper meaning in their lives.

"It's finding our inner voice," she said. "It's making the physical body stronger, the intellect and the spirit stronger. It's making all aspects of ourselves stronger and finding, in all of those areas, a balance."
