FARRELL

'Weird' letter writer might be known

Some Farrell city officials believe that the envelope Mayor William Morocco turned over to authorities last week was from a frequent letter writer.

City Manager LaVon Saternow, said she was not in on Friday, when Morocco picked up the letter from his mail slot at the city building, but other city employees saw it.

"Without having seen it I can't say for sure," Mrs. Saternow said. "But others who have seen it said it looked like the kind that we've gotten before."

Concerned about the strange address, return address and handwriting on the envelope, Morocco turned the "weird" letter over to Southwest Mercer County Regional police, who gave it to postal inspectors in Pittsburgh.

Calls to postal inspectors have not been returned.

City officials have opened letters apparently from the same writer before, but haven't been able to read them, Mrs. Saternow said. The handwriting is "like a scrawl" and makes no sense, she said.

The letters have not been a concern to city employees in the past.

Apparently, Morocco has never seen one of the letters before.

"Why they decided to put it in Bill's mailbox, I don't know," Mrs. Saternow said.
